What’s Blooming January 15, 2012

Well, I went outside this morning to take photos of my “blooms” and had a hard time of it since I had to brush away the snow to see anything. Anyway, here are my almost blooms for January. I’m counting my hellebore buds as blooms since they were a little further along this time last year and it’s all I’ve got.

Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day takes place on the 15th of every month and all started with May Dreams Gardens.

  2. Hellebores must love the cold. Mine are looking pretty scraggly since we are having unseasonably warm weather but hopefully they will perk up. I’m sure you will have some beautiful blooms soon!

    • I hope they start blooming soon. I start getting restless this time of year and these guys always perk me up!

  3. Brrr – Send those flowers to sunny California for a vacation! Though with a bit of luck we’ll be getting rain soon. I come from a snowy country but I forget what it feels like – till I see GBBD posts from snowy winter zones! I’m seeing quite a few hellebores as I wander around peoples’ gardens – I’ll have to try those, I really like how they look.

    • You really should get some hellebores! Being from sunny California, you may have other plants that provide winter color. We have very few this time of year.

  4. Your hellebores are looking great! Mine is only a year old, so very small right now, but blooming! I love the image with the red leaves emerging through the snow. It’s nice you got some…we’re still waiting to see what happens over here on the east coast. Finally had some cold temps, but no snow. Can’t wait to see your hellebores open up!

    • I also can’t wait until they open up! It does take them awhile to bloom but when they do they have tons of blooms! I can’t wait to see your blooms either! ;)

  6. Never tire of seeing those hellebore blooms blanketed with snow. Though the pink and rosey ones are welcome and bright against the snow, I think I prefer the white. I really must add these to my garden.

    • I also prefer the white ones but also love the doubles. But I’ve got a variety of colors: white, pink, (almost) black. Honestly, I just love that they show signs of life this time of year!
