Replacing the Reed Fencing…
The reed fencing we’ve had over the last three years has finally succumbed to our wet & windy climate. That means the dreaded chain link is back!
Even though I liked the look of the reed fencing, I want to do something different this time around.
For inspiration I collected various fence pictures on Pinterest until I could make up my mind. In the end I was pretty set on a framed lattice fence with finials on each post. The problem is that I wasn’t sure the lattice would cover the chain link enough. To test this I got a couple panels and observed the coverage over a couple weeks.
The result of the test? I wasn’t happy that I could still see the neighbor’s fence. So, I went out and bought some 4’h x 8’w bamboo panels at Home Depot (online).
This option is a little more expensive than the reed fencing but less expensive than the framed lattice I was hoping to do. I’m happy the bamboo will last a little longer than the reed fencing and provide even more coverage.
Fingers are crossed. I’ll keep you updated with our progress.
We have a similar issue. On top of the chain link fence and seeing into the neighbor’s yard, we also have some problems with their very loud and vocal dog, who barks when he sees so much as a bird move in our yard. Blocking his view into our yard would help! However, the fence is on the East side and we don’t want to block out that great morning sun as well! Always tricky to come up with an affordable, attractive choice that provides a solution! I’ll be eager to see what you settle on and how it looks – good luck!

I was thinking the same thing as Lynn. I’d love to see the bamboo you chose when you have it installed. I’ve got one reed fence panel to hide my neighbors’ blue-tarped compost pile. I hope it lasts a few more years but it would be nice to get a few replacement ideas tinkering around in my brain.

I love all.these fence ideas. I need to make a fence to keep the deer and other pests from my garden and landscaping. I am on Social Security so I need to make it from something recycled. Some really great ideas here. Thanks.
