Our 2010 Garden Plan

This year we decided it was time to remodel the front and back yard. The design below is my rough sketch of the changes we’ve got planned. I’m not sure we’ll get everything done.  Even though it looks like I’ll have the summer off (my job moved out of state) and I’ll have plenty of time to make changes, we may not have enough money to get all the hardscaping done.

I’ll simply need to be creative when purchasing patio pavers, stone and plants.

As you can see, our house and yard are pretty small. I’ve already got a list of plants prepared for the new beds, click here to see some of the recommendations I got. Pretty much everything except buildings, the lawn, patio and pathways will be a garden area.

I don’t know if this is your style or not, but I loved this deck paver idea from Sunset Magazine so much that I bookmarked it so that If I ever owned a home with a yard, I’d be able to do this.

    • Thanks Fern! I love the colors. Since we’re removing grass and replacing with a stone patio, we decided to leave space between the stones and plant ground cover.

  2. I want to make over our front and back yard this year too! Will have to have Shane look at your blog to get him motivated! Can’t wait to read about your progress!

    • Thanks Jenn! I can’t wait to make progress. We’ve made plans to remove some plants next weekend so that’s a start. I’ve come to realize it’s the hardscaping that really makes a yard. That’s why we’re replacing the front path and adding the patio in the back. You better watch out – it’s addicting!

  3. I bet you’re excited to put the plan into action. All the stone/pavers we used were from a rockery place in Woodinville, we hauled it all ourselves which saved a lot of money. It took several trips but was worth it.

    • I think the Woodinville rock place is closed – if it’s the one right off Hwy 522. We’ve got a pretty good one in Monroe we’re going to check out first – so we’re supporting local folks. I’ll also look online to see if there’s any salvage rocks we can find.
